64 Bits or Less - 2020

Update:

We're sorry to announce that, due to Covid-19, we have decided to cancel 64 Bits or Less 2020. There is simply no way to hold this event safely during a pandemic. We might try to put on some other events later in the summer, if we can do so safely, but we are probably looking at 2021 for the next 64 Bits or Less festival.

Stay safe everyone. We'll see you next year!

Life or Level is proud to present 64 Bits or Less!

We are excited to grow the event this year with a move to a new venue, and expanding to 2 days. We will be at the Benton County Fairgrounds in the Floral Courtyard on Friday June 26 and Saturday June 27. The admission fee will be $15 per day in advance or $18 at the door. As always, we fill an outdoor space with dozens of old TVs, couches, and classic video game consoles. Every era up to the 64 bit generation will be represented with each console getting its own couch, rug, table and lamp to give an authentic living room feel. We also have a post-apocalypse themed light gun gallery, a Nintendo 64 set up on the projector, and high score contests with prizes. Each year we also build more gaming themed props to display and interact with. This is a festival like no other.

Atari 2600 set up on our custom table with wood-grain highlights to match the consoleThere will be twelve of our couch/console setups including: Atari 2600, Odyssey, Intellivision, ColecoVision, Atari 7800, Master System, NES, SNES, TurboGrafx-16, N64, Saturn, and PlayStation. All with OEM consoles and controllers, CRT TVs, and a great selection of games.

A new area this year will feature three Pong clones paired with our three nicest B/W sets: a RadioShack TV Scoreboard, a Tele-Games Hockey Tennis II, and a Coleco Telstar Ranger (with the light gun).

The computer lab will have 6 desks featuring an Atari 800, a TRS-80 Color Computer, a Commodore VIC-20, a TI-99/4A, an IBM PS/1 running Windows 3.11, and an IBM Aptiva running Windows 98.

Our handmade post-apocalyptic light gun shooting gallery is equipped with an NES, Master System, Genesis, and PlayStation, all with multiple games.

On the projector/screen will be a Nintendo 64 on our custom N64 logo table with four, four player games, and four recliners.

Finally, the high score contest will also be back with Donkey Kong on the Famicom, Pac-Man on the NES, and Joust on a Top Loader. The top scorer on each game will win a pass to the Portland Retro Gaming Expo!

All told that's 30 systems running. And of course, we will be adding to our collection of hand-made, game-themed props, art, and even furniture. Keep an eye on this page for progress pics of this year’s projects.

We value the diversity of people; our events are a safe and welcoming space for all.

All ages will be welcome until 7pm, at which point it will become 21+.

There will be a couple of food trucks on site selling snacks throughout the event. Beer, cider and wine will be available for purchase in the evenings.

For guests coming from out of town, there is tent and RV camping available at the venue. You can reserve a space through the Benton Oaks RV Park.
